Stealing a moment – with Ned & Darcy

Darcy Clarke is a truly talented Australian designer.

His work draws on the materials and maker skills of the Australian and surrounding Pacific region.

Darcy’s lamps represent some of his most standout work, created using traditional furniture-making techniques, local weaving styles and materials as varied as plant fibres, porcelain and blown glass.

Darcy recently sent us some beautiful photos of his more recent ‘NED’ stool and we had to share them with you!

Below Darcy lets us in on his latest work and what he’s planning for 2011.

DQ: Tell us about your latest product lines and material investigations!

DC: This year we have been expanding on the success of the woven lamps and lighting, to build a brand with a boarder range of furniture objects.

We’ve focussed on new product lines and designs such as the ‘Bonito’, ‘NED’, ‘Diamond’, ‘Cruzada’, ‘Bean’ sofa and several other larger pieces.

With this has come the freedom to explore material, be creative and have fun with new products and materials.

This has seen us working with large manufacturers and at the same time fostering collaboration with talented craft people.

DQ: What are you planning for 2011 – new products, new directions, a move?

DC: We are open to a world of possibilities at the moment, there are a heap of great products designed and ready for manufacture in 2011.

This includes a bed, outdoor seating, armchairs, tables and more lighting  – it’s going to be a fantastic year.

The ‘NED’ and ‘Bonito’ are set for success and there’s plans in the making for an Australian Darcy Clarke showroom.

There will also be a lot of global trekking as we will be spending time in the US to build up Darcy Clarke USA.

DQ: Looking back at 2010 what are your major highlights?

DC: Definitely all the work we’ve done on the new products and the Darcy Clarke brand.

This was started with the invitation to exhibit at the Milan Furniture Fair in April (2010) which was a challenging experience and a great way to get out of the comfort zone.

Other highlights have been, launching the new website which reflects the direction and freshness to the brand and expanding the team.

Thanks Darcy – we’re really intrigued by the mention of a possible showroom!

Street Beat – Urban Furniture

This is a very funky set of outdoor furniture, and when we discovered it – it was design-love at first sight.

Created by design group Norway Says (yes they’re from Norway) for lighting system manufacturer Ewo, the ‘Up’ Series is a set of Urban Furniture which brings a very sleek aesthetic to everyday streetscapes.
